“The First Ally” arc has really been the most important arc of this book and how fitting to end the run. This is the final issue of the series and just because Snyder’s been working on Metal, that hasn’t brought the quality of this book down. Let’s dive into All Star Batman #14 and see how well it truly holds up…

Mister Miracle #2 Review

Written by: Tom King
Art by: Mitch Gerads and Clayton Cowles

Mister Miracle #1 was a huge surprise to me-- not that I had any preconception of it failing but just that Tom King could take this lesser known character and make it matter, a la Kite Man. What did surprise me was how successful #1 was, almost immediately selling out and forcing DC to make a 2nd printing of it. I loved it and now that the next chapter is here, let's dive into Mister Miracle #2 and see if King continues to be king...

Teen Titans #12 Review (Metal Tie-In)

Gotham Resistance Part 1: The Riddler's Labyrinth
Written by: Benjamin Percy
Art by: Mirka Andolfo, Romulo Fajardo Jr and Corey Breen

It was a smart move to continue the Metal story this way - having tie-in issues to other books. The main Metal story isn’t going to be focusing on what’s going on in Gotham and the story branching off was great. Now, the question remains was it necessary? Let’s find out as we dive into Teen Titans #12 and find out…

The biggest event of DC Comics, Dark Nights: Metal, is back again to bring a new chapter in the rock n’ roll epic. Last issue we had amazingly fun setup to the story that kicked things off with a bang. The story is back this month to set things in motion for the Dark Multiverse to invade the world of our heroes. Will this comic live up to the hype? Let’s find out as we dive into the mosh pit of Dark Nights: Metal #2…

Superman #30 Review

“A Minute Longer” Part 2: Hopes & Fears
Written by: Keith Champagne
Art by: Ed Benes, Tyler Kirkman, Philip Tan, and Rob Leigh

Last we left Superman, he was possessed by Parallax and I was hoping to see Super Parallax and Sinestro duke it out for most of the issue. That’s not the case here as Parallax leaves Supes’ body very early in the issue. Was that this issues downfall? Or will it give us something better than an all-out brawl? Let’s find out as we delve into Superman #30...

Batman #30 Review

“The War of Jokes and Riddles” Interlude: The Ballad of Kite Man Part 2
Written by: Tom King
Art by: Clay Mann, Seth Mann, Jordie Bellaire, and Clayton Cowles

The War of Jokes and Riddles wages on and I still don’t like this arc very much. The last Kite Man interlude we had was so good that I’m glad that this week we get another one. Will it be an issue to where I can say “oh hey, there’s a Kite Man issue again. Can’t wait to read it!” or will it be yet another disappointing entry into the War arc. Let’s dive into Batman #30 and find out...

Red Hood and the Outlaws Annual #1 Review

“Big Tent, Bigger Dreams!”
Written by: Scott Lobdell
Art by: Tyler Kirkham, Arif Prianto and Taylor Esposito

We take a break from our regularly scheduled dose of “the feels” to bring something a little more fun to the Outlaws’ story. Annuals week is a perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy a little one-shot story, since annuals usually don’t take place in the current story arc of a comic. This annual does actually, taking place before RHATO #12. Let’s jump into the Outlaws’ first Annual issue and see if it’s a worthwhile story…

All-Star Batman #13 Review

“The First Ally Part 4”
Written by: Scott Snyder
Art by: Rafael Albuquerque, Cris Peter and Steve Wands

Scott Snyder has been a terrific Batman writer and this issue continues to prove that. All-Star Batman isn’t the main Batman title but I’ve been loving it more than Batman. The “First Ally” arc is the most fun I’ve had with All-Star so far and now that part 4 has come, let’s dive into All-Star Batman #13 and see if Snyder can continue that fun...

Superman #28 Review (Spoilers)

“A Minute Longer”
Written by: Keith Champagne
Art by: Doug Mahnke, Jamie Mendoza, Scott Hanna, Rob Hunter and Rob Leigh

I have loved Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason’s run on Superman since the beginning but not all of their issues have been hits. When this is the case, for me personally, it’s fun to see another writer come on board and provide a cool story. This definitely isn’t the first time but it’s a nice departure. Let’s dive into Superman #28 and see how fun other writers can make this title...

Super Sons #8 Review

“Planet of the Capes Part 2”
Written by: Peter J Tomasi
Art by: Jorge Jimenez, Alejandro Sanchez and Rob Leigh

I have been really digging Super Sons and this arc is no exception. It’s so much fun and it’s one of my favorite books. When this book comes in, I know I’ll never be disappointed. Damian and Jon’s interactions are so hilarious and Jon working with the Teen Titans feels so natural. Let’s dive into “Planet of the Capes Part 2” and see if we can continue that team fun…

Batman #29 Review

“The War of Jokes and Riddles Part 4”
Written by: Tom King
Art by: Mikel Janin, Hugo Petrus, June Chung and Clayton Cowles

This so called “war” has been anything but, from what we’re seeing. We only get told that there’s a war of jokes and riddles but we never really see it. Last issue, we were told way more than what we were shown and I was fed up with that, especially in a visual medium like a comic book. Part 4 is actually much different, but in a very weird way. Let’s take a look at Batman #29 and I’ll tell you what I mean…

Dark Nights Metal #1 Review (Spoilers)

Written by: Scott Snyder
Art by: Greg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion

Scott Snyder. Greg Capullo. One of the biggest team of DC. Their Batman run during in the 52 was one of the biggest runs of that era and when Rebirth happened we all, of course, wanted the dream team to return. Now they’re back with one mission: to make a damn fun comic book. For what seems like a year now, Dark Nights Metal, Snyder and Capullo’s passion project, has finally come. Was it worth the wait and hype for such a huge summer event? Let's find out...

The Flash #28 Review

“Negative Part One”
Written by: Joshua Williamson
Art by: Carmine Di Giandomenico, Hi-Fi, and Steve Wands

The “Running Scared” arc left us in a strange transitional period for Barry that I don’t think he was ready for: Eobard Thawne was killed by Iris, Barry asked Iris for space and now he has these negative speed force powers. In the last issue, I wondered to myself how he’d handle these new powers and how long they’ll last. Now, let’s jump into issue #28 and see how these powers are affecting him...

Red Hood and the Outlaws #13 Review (Spoilers)

“The Life of Bizarro Part 2”
Written by: Scott Lobdell
Art by: Dexter Soy, Veronica Gandini, and Taylor Esposito

Red Hood and the Outlaws has been one of my favorite books in DC Rebirth, if not my absolute favorite. It’s emotional impact on me is the number one reason why I love this book so much. The relationship Jason, Artemis and Bizarro share is so deep. Last issue we left the team in a dramatic event of fearing that they’ll lose Bizarro. Let’s jump into issue #13 and find out what will happen to the team... (Spoiler filled review. Overall comments at the end is non-spoiler.)

Detective Comics #962 Review (Spoilers)

“Intelligence Finale: Judgement Day”
Written by: James Tynion IV
Art by: Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez, Brad Anderson and Sal Cipriano

Detective Comics has been a solid run and the “Intelligence” arc is no exception. The story has been a great addition to this title’s catalogue. Now that the final chapter in the arc has come, let’s see if it can wrap it up satisfactory or end in a rushed mess… (Spoiler filled review. Overall comments at the end is non-spoiler.)
